Figuratively speaking, the word « skin » has become a symbol of organic life in itself. Lots of expressions use it. Among them :
With good skin food, you would have « skinny lips » (Shakespeare) and be a good skin (a good person)!
Of course, you want to save your skin (same in French: « sauver sa peau », or Italian: « salvare la pelle », or German: « seine Haut retten ».
In Italian: « no voler essere nella pelle di qualcuno » or in German: « nicht in jemandes Haut stecken mögen», means not wanting to be in someone's shoes.
But you probably like to « get into one’s skin », showing empathy, or in German: « unter die Haut gehen ».
And the French words : « être bien dans sa peau » or the German ones: « sich in seiner Haut wohlfühlen » means to feel good.
